The women behind Good Energy.

Maria Escamilla, DNP, CNM, APRN-FPA
Maria calls Bolingbrook home, where she lives with her husband, two dogs, and a cat who's fully convinced she runs the household. You'll likely find her on a trail somewhere, a book in one hand and dinner plans already forming.
Maria is a Certified Nurse Midwife with five years of experience caring for people across the lifespan. Her approach is rooted in trauma-informed, non-judgmental support: compassion, integrity, and respect are at the center of every visit.
She is especially passionate about fertility, preconception planning, and reproductive health, and has completed training in Women's Integrative and Functional Medicine through Aviva Romm. Before co-founding Good Energy, she practiced alongside Sarah at a full-scope midwifery practice for many years and later worked at a private OBGYN practice.
Maria is fluent in Spanish and is committed to making high-quality, integrative gynecologic care more accessible for Spanish-speaking clients and families throughout our community. Bienvenidas.

Sarah Stetina, MSN, CNM, APRN-FPA, MSCP
Sarah calls Batavia home, where she lives with her partner and toddler. You might spot her at the Batavia Farmers' Market on a weekend, walking the Riverwalk, or bringing home yet another houseplant she couldn't leave behind.
She has spent over 15 years in healthcare and nearly a decade as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and Certified Nurse Midwife. At the heart of her practice is a commitment to trauma-informed, inclusive care that meets people exactly where they are. She is known for building deep, meaningful, trusting relationships with her clients.
Sarah is especially passionate about perimenopause and menopause care, as well as helping people navigate PMDD, and is a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner (MSCP), a distinction held by only a handful of clinicians in Kane County.
Before co-founding Good Energy, Sarah served as Clinical Director of a full-scope midwifery group and practiced gynecologic and whole-person primary care as a virtual women's health provider with Tia, a women's health-focused primary care company. As a Certified Nurse Midwife with Full Practice Authority in Illinois, she provides comprehensive, independent care grounded in listening well, educating clearly, and connecting deeply.

Your questions, answered.
What is a Certified Nurse Midwife, and what can they treat?
A Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) is a licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with graduate-level education and national board certification in midwifery and women's health. In Illinois, CNMs can have Full Practice Authority, meaning we practice independently, prescribe medications including controlled substances, order and interpret labs and imaging, and provide comprehensive care without physician oversight.
Most people associate midwives with pregnancy and birth, and while that's certainly part of our training, CNMs are also experts in gynecology and women's health across the full lifespan. Our gynecology scope of practice is comparable to that of Women's Health Nurse Practitioners, with the addition of specialized training in pregnancy, labor, and birth.
Just as importantly, midwifery is a philosophy. It values relationships, informed decision-making, prevention, and caring for the whole person, not just a collection of symptoms. It is centered on community and advocacy. That philosophy is the foundation for everything at Good Energy.
What makes Good Energy Women's Health different from a standard OB-GYN practice?
A few things, starting with time. Our visits are intentionally longer than the standard model allows because we believe quality care happens in relationships, not in 10-minute appointments. We come prepared, we stay curious, and we don't move on until you feel heard.
Beyond that: we practice with a trauma-informed, whole-person philosophy. We offer options across the spectrum — hormone therapy, evidence-based lifestyle medicine, and integrative approaches where the science supports them — because we believe your treatment plan should reflect your individual body and goals, not a protocol that gets applied to everyone.
See how we compare to a standard practice →What does trauma-informed care actually mean in practice?
It means nothing happens to your body without your explicit consent and understanding. We explain before we proceed, check in as we go, and follow your lead, always. If you've had a dismissive provider, a painful exam, or a moment where you felt like you had no choice, we want you to know you have every choice here. A pelvic exam should never feel like something you just have to get through, and we take the time to make sure it doesn't.
This is also an affirming practice. LGBTQIA+ clients are welcomed and respected without exception, with your correct name and pronouns, and no assumptions made about you or your body.
Learn more about our values →Do you see clients who have had negative experiences with healthcare before?
Yes, and honestly, many of our clients come to us specifically because of those experiences. Whether you've been dismissed, misdiagnosed, harmed, made to feel like you were overreacting, or simply never had a provider who took the time to actually listen — you are welcome here. We don't rush past that history. We start there.
Is Good Energy right for me if I'm not sure what's wrong?
Absolutely. You don't need a diagnosis or a referral to book with us. Many of our clients come in knowing something is off but not knowing what to call it. That's exactly the kind of conversation we're built for, unhurried and curious.
